Water Safety Week Levels
These lessons are run by Water Safety Ireland and during the lessons the child will develop skills in rescue, survival and resuscitation.
Safety 1 (Min Age 9 years old)
To test principles of water safety and simple rescue techniques especially for those whose lack of swimming skills precludes them from further lifesaving training.
Safety 2 (Min Age 9 years old)
To introduce simple rescue techniques involving minimum risk to the rescuer. Designed to prepare the candidate who has some swimming skills for lifesaving training.
Safety 3 (Min Age 9 years old)
To emphasize rescue techniques involving minimum risk to the rescuer. Designed to test candidate’s judgement and ability to assess accident situations correctly.
Safety 4 (includes BLS 1) (Min Age 9 years old)
To further emphasize simple rescue techniques involving minimum risk to the rescuer. Designed to test candidate’s progression from skills included in Safety 2 & 3 and as a preparatory step to the Rescue Awards.
Endurance 1 (Min Age 11 years old)
PREREQUISITE: Safety 4
To emphasize the the importance of training in self rescue skills before attempting body contact rescue and also the need to attain a high standard of physical fitness.
Rescue 1 (includes BLS 2) (Min Age 12 years old)
PREREQUISITE: Endurance 1 / Survival 1
To introduce candidates to different techniques of personal contact in swimming rescues with various types of subjects, while ensuring minimum risk to the rescuer.
Endurance 2 (Min Age 12 years old)
PREREQUISITE: Endurance 1 / Rescue 1
To emphasize the the importance of training in self rescue skills before attempting body contact rescue and also the need to attain a high standard of physical fitness.
Rescue 2 (includes BLS 2) (Min Age 13 years old)
PREREQUISITE: Rescue 1 & Endurance 2 / Survival 2
To minimize the dangers of body contact rescues by providing candidates with the necessary skills to make effective release from various grips or clutches and to complete a rescue safely.
